My New Online Business
Season’s Greetings from freezing cold London! My name is Jules Massey. I wanted to wish you a warm welcome to my brand new affiliate marketing blog! I hope that this will be the first of many.
Like you, I wear many hats. I am a forty-something wife and mother to two beautiful human beings. I’m a filmmaker and some would call me a loyal and firm friend. Whilst I am passionate about all these roles, the hat I’m most excited about wearing now was borne out of the social and economic disruption caused by Covid-19.
Undeniably, this pandemic has wreaked havoc across the globe on an unprecedented scale. Like many, I went from a 3 hour a day commute across London – to a complete lockdown scenario, which saw me without a job and homeschooling my two children.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one to shy away from a challenge, but homeschooling had me grasping at my vastly depleted reserves of patience and sanity. I now have nothing but the utmost respect for teachers across the land. They, along with our National Health Service staff truly are unsung heroes!
Yet – every cloud has a silver lining. Once the initial shock of the scale of the pandemic had settled, I realised that lockdown life in London had actually gifted me the one thing I’d wanted for months; time.
Within six months of lockdown I actually saw my children grow before my eyes – something I’ve never witnessed before because I’d always been away working. This is time I’ll never get back.
As challenging as homeschooling was, there were moments where I found myself being schooled by my kids in the art of ‘chill’ and being present. In truth I’d much rather work and be kept busy, but I also enjoy creating the moments that memories are made of with my family, friends and loved ones.
Now, I had the time and opportunity to stop, reflect on my life, breathe deeply and think about how I would prefer to live.
So, what do I want for my life NOW?
I want to live in a warm, tropical climate where I work for up to 3 hours a day and spend the rest of my time enjoying a comfortable life with my family and pursuing my many creative passions.
I aim to support my dream through my online business that earns me money while I sleep and connects me with other like-minded successful online entrepreneurs, like you!
My husband and I lived abroad in Vietnam for six years from 2009. Our two children were born in Ho Chi Minh City, so the idea of living abroad is not too much of a stretch. We are now both living back in our native United Kingdom, which will always be home.
but it’s time to explore some warmer shores.
My late granddad used to tell me, ‘Reach for the stars… you might just get the moon’… but wouldn’t it be nice if I got the stars AND the moon?
Do I ask for too much? The alternative is not to ask and not to try. For me, even contemplating not trying leaves me with a painful pang in my gut. So, I either line up with my dream or let it torture me into a knot of bitterness and regret.
Every ‘thing’ we now enjoy in modern civilisation started out as someone’s dream. Throughout history, there have always been those who have imagined a way to improve our existence; from the wheel, to the lightbulb, to toilet paper and precious wifi. If we can’t dare to dream what we want for our lives, then someone or something else will do it for us.
To that end, I’ve just launched my online business as an affiliate marketer.. and if you’ve read this far, thank you for joining me here – on my very first blog post!
Through my blog, I’ll be donning my affiliate marketing hat and sharing my personal journey with you as I progress in my business over the coming weeks.
As someone who is just starting out, it can be a minefield navigating the varied approaches to launching and maintaining a successful online business and yes – it does feel a bit daunting taking a leap into this brave new world of affiliate marketing.
The Good News
As the fairytale goes, you’ve got to kiss a few frogs to find your prince.
I’ve wasted a fair bit of money and time trying and buying different affiliate marketing schemes that promised the earth and delivered barely a crumb of value and support.
The silver lining in these unfortunate experiences is that they made me even clearer about what I DID want from an affiliate programme. I wanted an honest, transparent programme that a ‘newbie’ like me could learn, apply and get results for LIFE.
That is exactly what I’ve found.
I’ve recently acquired a brilliant mentor in Dean Holland. If you don’t know Dean you should check him out. He’s an extremely successful online entrepreneur and the CEO of Internet Profits. Dean is a passionate and honest soul who loves nothing more than sharing his knowledge and experience with others to help them achieve their dreams.
I first heard about Dean through his free ebook, the Affiliate Marketers Playbook. I really appreciated Dean’s honest views about the current state of the affiliate marketing industry and how to survive it profitably. I’ve now become a certified Internet Profits Partner with Dean. Since starting with Internet Profits, Dean has introduced the path he took that allowed him to scale his income to 7 figures and gain a sustained level of financial freedom.
I’m really looking forward to emulating his success.
This week I’ve learned to install Builderall which is an all-in-one website builder for online entrepreneurs. Builderall has a few different plans on offer, but I signed up to the Funnel Club Plan – because it provides all the tools I need to market my business online – including an autoresponder, page builder and more. I’m just getting my head around it so I’ll let you know how I get on.
One of the great things about the Funnel Club plan is that it comes with a WordPress integration tool – which helps me to build my blog. I’ve never installed WordPress before. (Don’t laugh! Baby steps! You’ve got to start somewhere, right?!?)
It’s not perfect – I know, but I’ll tweak it as I go.
There will be a lot of ‘firsts’ for me as I continue to learn the ropes. To be honest, it’s a daunting, yet exhilarating time… but I do have a great buffer of support through Dean Holland and other mentors at Internet Profits, so I can’t go too far wrong without knowing what to do.
For now, my aim is to look ahead, not down and I hope to share my experiences with anyone who is interested in reading about them. I’m really looking forward to connecting with those of you in a similar position to me and learning from those of you who are more experienced.
What’s Your Story?
If you’ve just started, I’d love to learn about your journey and what inspired you to become an online entrepreneur.
If you’re more experienced, what advice would you give your ‘newbie’ self who was just starting out? Do you have a mentor or are there any internet marketers whom you admire and whose success you’d like to emulate?
Any thoughts or advice you might have would be of tremendous value.
I’m hoping that we could eventually be of assistance to each other as I progress, learn and grow.
I’ll be posting on my blog once a week.
If you have any questions or comments about anything I’ve written, please submit them in the form below.
Until next week!
